It is natural for a daughter to always be awestruck by everything her father does. So, imagine my joy when my dad announced that he was going to publish not one, but two books this year.
To tell you a bit about him, my father Jayraj Salgaokar is an Economist with a flair for literature, music, history and almost everything we come across. He is a printer/publisher and an author. He has written about world affairs, economics and more in the past for various publications. Two of his earlier books, Kashasathi Kuthvar and Jagapravah, were compilations of his columns and articles. And then, he decided to write two more.
Dad has always been intrigued by history and more so by Baajirao I. He often found himself digging beyond the usual Baajirao Mastani stuff, to find out more about the unconquerable general. And that’s how his quest for information became his quest to present Baajirao to the world began. The book is in Marathi, has plenty of maps and a lot of information collected over many years from credible sources.
Economics is my dad’s passion. And while he keenly observes and tracks economic developments around the world, he always laments about the lack of awareness about money. But instead of just lamenting, he has gone ahead and written a book that simplifies money for the middle-class.
Both the books, Ajinkya Yoddha Baajirao and Paisa Ani Madhyamvarga, were released yesterday by Dr Anil Kakodkar (Chairman Atomic Energy Commission of India) and Dr Vijay Kelkar (noted economist) respectively and Bhishmaraj Bam, ex-RAW, presided over the event.
There wasn’t a vacant seat left in the auditorium as my father’s friends poured in to be a part of his special day. Standing at the back of the auditorium, I remember feeling extremely proud, prouder than I have ever been. I will read his books and post my thoughts here soon, but I would love for you to read the books too! They are available at major bookstores. In case you can’t find them, drop me a line and I will figure out how to get them to you.
PS: Grandma, grandpa, father have been published authors for a while. I recently joined the club!
