When my life went from B&W to colour!

There is always a defining moment – a moment you’ve waited for—where it seems like your life goes from Black & White to colour in a fraction of a second, much like that scene in the 1996 film Dream for an Insomniac. That moment  defines what you’ve been living for and it marks the line between two distinct phases of your life. My moment just happened… My life went from Black & White to colour with the fact that my debut novel started shipping!

In that single moment, where my dearest friends started posting pictures of my book on Facebook and Twitter, my life as a novelist – a short one yet—flashed right in front of my eyes. The feverish writing, the nervours reading at my class in Uni of Sussex, the sharing of chapters with Pannu, the writing and rewriting at Shivaji Park Barista, total revamp of the manuscript after Ruchi Kaushal’s post-its, the final touches to the book with Jayanthi Mahalingam, Preeti Singh and Aparna Andhare, those meetings with Vikas Gaitonde to finalise the book cover, seeing the cover of my book for the first time on a hospital bed (typhoid arrrgh) and of course, waiting with a baited breath as the book went into production…

And now, people out there had my book. They were reading my book and commenting on the  characters and it all felt surreal…

Yes, my life has changed. From a struggling novelist to a published one. Life will never be the same again. Rahul and Tanya are people’s property now and the three of us are circulating among readers, being loved, judged, identified with. And man, this does feel good!
