Run Shakti Run

Exercise was not for my lazy bum. Other than shaking it once in a while at a party to some retro or Bollywood tunes, I barely got any exercise done. But then, the fitness bug bit me and I started enjoying my walks. They were a welcome break from staring at the screen and they were showing results on the weighing scale.

I only knew how much time I was walking for and had a rough estimate of the distance I covered.  And then I discovered RunKeeper. It was an iPhone app that used my phone’s GPS system to track the distance, time and pace of my walk/run. Now, I knew that walking for 60 minutes at a super slow speed was as good as not walking at all. With RunKeeper I could keep my pace and distance in check. RunKeeper updated me for each kilometer I crossed, and I started increasing my pace.

Sometimes a nod, or an acknowledgement from a fellow walker left me feeling rather enthused. The same holds true for social networks. I am a sucker for audience and the ability to share my fitness updates to Twitter and Facebook proved to be another huge motivator. From an average of 4.5 km every day, I went as high as 7 km each day. And then I got an email.

1,000 kilometers!

Congratulations! You’ve been crushing your workouts, and your hard work and dedication have paid off. So, how far is 1,000 kilometers?

  •     2,487 laps around a track
  •     10,000 soccer field lengths
  •     20,000 Olympic pool lengths

Impressive, right? We think this achievement is pretty cool, and it’s important to celebrate the milestones along the road to your goals. So, why not celebrate with friends?

This blogpost is my way of sharing this awesome achievement with you guys. Even if it is a 2 km walk, it all adds up!
